Find the length of perpendicular from po...

Find the length of perpendicular from point `(3,-2)` to the line `3x-4y-2=0`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Length of perpendicular from point `(x_(1),y_(1))` to the straight line `ax+by+c=0` is
`=|(ax_(1)+by_(1)+c)/(sqrt(a^(2)+b^(2)))|`
`:.` Length of perpendicular from point `(3,-2)` to the straight line `3x-4y-2=0` is
`=|(3(3)-4(-2)-2)/(sqrt(3^(2)+(-4)^(2)))|`
`=|(9+8-2)/(sqrt(9+16))|=(15)/(5)=3` units
