Find the points of the xaxis, whose distances from the line `x/3+y/4=1`are 4 unit is.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let required point on `x-` axis be `(h,0)` .
Given line `(x)/(3)+(y)/(4)=1`
`implies 4x+3y=12`
`implies 4x+3y-12=0`……….`(1)`
Length of perpendicular from `(h,0)` to equation `(1)=4` unit
`implies|(4h+0-12)/(sqrt(4^(2)+3^(2)))|=4`
`implies (4h-12)/(5)=+-4`
`implies 4h-12=+20`
`implies 4h=32` or `4h=-8`
`implies h=8` or `h=-2`
`:.` Required point `=(8,0)` and `(-2,0)`
