Explain the variation of temperature with heat for water at 1 atm with a graph.

Text Solution

Water boils at a constant temperature of `100^@C` at sea level and requires a minimum of heat equal to the latent heat of steam `(L_("steam") = 2.26xx10^(6)J kg ^(-1))`. The temperature of steam go beyond `100^@C` and heat content beyond ` 2.26xx10^6 J kg^(-1)` . (Hence steam causes more heat injury than boiling water on the skin).

AO - solid phase (ice)
OB - solid -liquid phase
BC - liquid phase (water)
CD - liquid - vapour phase
DE - steam phase .
