An aircraft executes a horizontal loop of radius 1 km with a steady speed of 900 kmph . Compare its centripetal acceleration with acceleration due to gravity .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given R = 1000 m ,
`v = 900 xx (5)/(18) = 50 xx 5 = 250 ms^(-1)`
Centripetal acceleration `a = (v^(2))/(R) i.e., a = (250 xx 250)/(1000)`
i.e, `a = (625)/(10) = 62.5 ms^(-2)`
acceleration due to gravity g = `9.8 ms^(-2)`
