Distinguish between a pure and an impure spectrum.

A pure spectrum is that spectrum in which there is no overlapping of colours. Different colours fall on the screen at different points distinctly.
An impure sepctrum is that spectrum in which there is an overlapping of colours. There will be intermixing of colours so that different colours do not fall on the screen in a regular sequence.
