Obtain an expression for equivalent resi...

Obtain an expression for equivalent resistance of two resistors connected in parallel.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Resistors are said to be connected in parallel when,
(i) Voltage remains common (ii) Current branches out in each of the resistors such that
`I=I_(1)+I_(2)`
From Ohm.s law, V=IR so that `I_(1)=V/(R_(1)),I_(2)=V/(R_(2))`.
Hence, `I=V(1/(R_(1))+1/(R_(2)))`
or `1/(R_(P))=1/V=1/(R_(1))+1/(R_(2))`
