Whenever an object is immersed in a liquid (fully or partially), it experiences an upward force. The upward force is called buoyant force (or upthrust). The tendency of a liquid to exert an upward force on an object placed in it, is called buoyancy. Even the gases exhibit the property of buoyancy.
