Why don't two magnetic field lines intersect each other?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
N/a

The two magnetic lines of force do not intersect each other because the resultant force on a north pole at any point on a magnetic line of force can be only in one direction. If, however, the two magnetic lines of force intersected (or crossed) each other, it would mean that at the point of intersection, the compass needle would point in two directions at the same time, which is not possible.
