(a) A material which can be turned into thin sheets on hammering, is said to be malleable. Metals are malleable because metals can be beaten with a hammer to form thin sheets.
(b) A material which can be turned into thin wires by stretching, is said to be ductile. Metals are ductile because they can stretched (or drawn) to form thin wires.
