Explain the working of a zener diode as a voltage regulator.

The circuit connection are made as shown in the figure . The circuit contains a zener diode , an unregulated voltage source `(V_"in" > V_Z)` , a series reistance `R_S` and a load resistance `R_2`.
Any increase /decrease of voltage drop across `R_S` produce no change in voltage across the zener diode . For `(V_"in" lt V_Z)` , the zener diode does not function . Thus , the zener diode acts as voltage regulator .
