Write balanced equations for the reactions between each of the following oxides and water.
`Li_(2)O`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`Li_(2)O+H_(2)O to 2LiOH.` The reaction shows that Li2O is a basic oxide. However, LiOH is a weak base due to increased covalent nature of the bond. As `Li^+` is a small ion with high polarizing power it has greater tendency to form compounds with higher covalent character.
