How will you measure the diameter of the Moon using parallax method?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let AB = D be the diameter of the moon which is to be measured from the earth by an observer A.

A telescope is focused on the moon and the angle AOB is found.
`"Since "theta=("Arc")/("Radius")=(D)/(S)`
`therefore D=S.theta`
i.e., Linear diameter = Distance `xx` Angular diameter
