A man moving in rain holds his umbrella ...

A man moving in rain holds his umbrella inclined to the vertical even though the rain drops are falling vertically downwards. Why?

Let us consider a person moving horizontally with velocity `vec(V)_(m)` . Let rain falls vertically with velocity `vec(V)_(R)` . An umbrella is held to avoid the rain. Then the relative velocity of the rain with respect to the person is ,
`vec(V) _(RM)= vec(V)_(R)- vec(V)_(M)`
Its magnitude is given by
`V_(RM) = sqrt(vec(V)_(R)^(2)+vec(V)_(M)^(2))`
Its direction is given by `theta = tan^(-1) ((V_(M))/(V_(R)))` With the vertical . In order to sane himself from the rain, he should hold an umbrella at an angle `theta` with the vertical.

A man standing on a road has to hold his umbrella at 30^0 with the vertical to keep the rain away. The throws the umbrella and starts running at 10 km/h. He finds that raindrops are hitting his head vertically. Find the speed of raindrops with respect to a. the road, b. the moving man.

A man of mass m having a bag ofmas m slips from the roof of atall building of height H and starts falling vertically figure. When at a height h from the ground, he notices that the ground below him is pretty hard but there is a pond at a horizontal distnce x from the line of fall. In order to save himself he throws the bag horizontally (with respect to himself) in the direction opposite to the pond. Calculate the minimum horizontal velocity imparted to the bag so that the man lands in the water. If the man just suceeds toavoid the hard ground, where will the bag land?

Why are rain drop spherical in nature?

A ball is dropped from a height of 19.6 m above the ground. It rebounds from the ground and raises itself up to the same height.
