A force of 49N is just sufficient to pull a block of wookd weighing 10 kg on a rough horizontal surface calculate the coefficient of friction and angle of friction

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given : Applied force `P=49N`
Mass m = 10kg g=9.8`ms^(-2)`
coefficient of friction `mu = (f)/(R ) = (P)/(m g) = (49)/(10 xx 9.8) = 0.5`
As `tan theta = mu =0.5 `
`:. , theta = tan^(-1) (0.5) = 26^(@) 34`

A block of mass 2.5 kg is kept on a rough horizontal surface. It is found that the block does not slide if a horizontal force less than 15 N is applied to it. Also it is found that it takes 5 seconds to slide through the first 10 m if a horizontal force of 15 N is applied and the block is gently pushed to start the motion.
