Why hot water is preferred to cold water for washing clothes?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The temperature of hot water is more than the temperature of cold water. Surface tension of water decreases with rise in temperature. Hence surface tension of hot water becomes less. When hot water is used for washing clothes, the suspended dirt particles over the closer can be easily removed. The easy removal of dirt from the clothes is due to the reduction of surface tension of water.
