A light body and a heavy body have the same kinetic energy. Which one will have greater momentum?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Kinetic energy,
`K.E=(1)/(2)mv^(2)=((mv)^(2))/(2m)`
`=(P^(2))/(2m)`
`therefore P^(2)=2m(K.E)`
`therefore P=sqrt(2m(K.E))`
`therefore Ppropsqrt(m)`
Thus the heavier body has a greater momentum than the lighter one.
