Draw a graph showing the variation of K....

Draw a graph showing the variation of K.E and P.E with respect to displacement for a spring mass system.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let us consider the nature of a compressed or extended spring. A compressed or extended spring will transfer its stored potential energy into kinetic energy of the mass attached to the spring. The potential energy-displacement graph is shown in the figure. It shows variation of potential energy with respect to displacement.
In a frictionless environment, the energy gets transferred from kinetic to potential and potential to kinetic repeatedly in such a way that the total energy of the system remains constant. At the mean position,
`DeltaKE=DeltaU`
i.e., change in kinetic energy = Change in potential energy.
