A particle of mass 4m at rest decays into two particles of masses m and 3m having non-zero velocities. The ratio of the de Broglie wavelengths of the particles 1 and 2 is

A

`m_(1)//m_(2)`

B

`m_(2)//m_(1)`

C

`1`

D

`sqrt(m_(2))//sqrt(m_(1))`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

From law of conservation of momentum,
`P_(1)=P_(2)` (in opposite directions)
Now de-Brogli wavelength is given by `lambda=h/p`
[h=Plank's constant]
since, momentum (p) of both the particles is equal therefore `lambda_(1)=lambda_(2)implies lambda_(1)//lambda_(2)=1`
