A body when projected vertically up from ground clovers a total distance D during the time of its flight t. If there were no gravity. The distance covered by it during the same time is equal to

A

0

B

D

C

2D

D

4D

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

The displacement of the body during the time t as it attains the point of projection
`rArr S = 0 rArr v_(0)t - (1)/(2) g t^(2) = 0`
`rArr t = (2v_(0))/(g)`
During the same time t, the body moves in absence of gravity through a distance
`D' = v_(0)t`, because in absence of gravity `g = 0`
`rArr D' = v_(0)((2v_(0))/(g)) = (2v_(0)^(2))/(g)` ...(i)
In presence of gravity the total distamce covered is
`= D = 2H = 2(v_(0)^(2))/(2g) = (v_(0)^(2))/(g)` ....(ii)
`(i) divide (ii) rArr D' = 2D`
