What role does the molecular interaction play in a solution of alcohol and water ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In case of alcohol as well as water, the molecules ae interlinked by intermolecular hydrongen bondign. Howerver, The hydrogen bonding is also present in the molecules of alcohol and water in the soluion but it is comparatively less then both alcohl and water. As a result, the magnitude of attractive forces tends to decrase and the solution shows positve deviation from Raoult's Law. This will lead to increase in vapour pressure of the solution and also decerse in its boiling point.
