Enumerate the reactions of `D`-Glucose which cannot be explained by its open-chain structure.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Open chain structure of D-glucose contains a free aldehydic group (-CHO). However, it does not give the following reactions :
(i) D(+) glucose does not react with 2, 4 D.N.P.
(ii) D(+) glucose does not react with `NaHSO_(3)`.
(iii) D(+) glucosaes does not restore the pink colour to Schiff's reagent.
