When a crystal of copper sulphate is placed at the bottom of a beaker containing water, the water slowly turns blue. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The crystal breaks into fine particles which form copper ions `(Cu^(2+)` ions) in solution. As these ions (blue in colour) spread, the colour of water slowly becomes blue.
