In figure arcs have been drawn with radii 14 cm each and with centres P, Q and R. Find the area of the shaded region .

Text Solution

The area of the shaded region is equal to the sum of area of three sectors of same radius but of different angle `theta_(1), theta_(2) and theta_(3)`
`angletheta_(1) + angletheta_(2) + angle theta_(3) = 180^(@)` (int. `angles " of " Delta`)
`:.` Area of shaded region `= (pi r_(1) theta_(1))/(360^(@)) + (pi r_(2)^(2) theta_(2))/(360^(@)) + (pi r_(3)^(2) theta_(3))/(360^(@))`
where `r_(1) = r_(2) = r_(3) = r = 14 cm`
`= (pi r^(2))/(360^(@)) (theta_(1) + theta_(2) + theta_(3)) = (22)/(7) xx (14 xx 14)/(360^(@)) xx 180^(@)`
`= 22 xx 14 = 308 cm^(2)`
`:.` Area of shaded region `= 308 cm^(2)`
