Dimension for shelter, l = 4m, b =4m and h = 2.5 cm
Required area of tarpaulin to make the shelter
= (area of 4 sides + area of the top) of the car
`= 2(l+b)xxh+(lxxb)`
`{2(4+3)xx2.5+(4xx3)}m^(2)`
`={(2xx7xx2.5)+12}m^(2)=(35+12)m^(2)=47 m^(2)`

Ravish wanted to make a temporary shelter for his car by making a box-like structure with tarpaulin that covers all the four sides and the top of the car (with the front face as a flap which can be rolled up). Assuming that the stitching margins are very small, and therefore negligible, how much tarpaulin would be required to make the shelter of height 2. 5 m with base dimensions 4mx3m ?

Adventure camps are the perfect place for the children to practice decision making for themselves without parents and teachers guiding their every move. Some students of a school reached for adventure at Sakleshpur. At the camp, the waiters served some students with a welcome drink in a cylindrical glass and some students in a hemispherical cup whose dimensions are shown below. After that they went for a jungle trek. The jungle trek was enjoyable but tiring. As dusk fell, it was time to take shelter. Each group of four students was given a canvas of area 551m2. Each group had to make a conical tent to accommodate all the four students. Assuming that all the stitching and wasting incurred while cutting, would amount to 1m2, the students put the tents. The radius of the tent is 7m. Which container had more juice and by how much?

A group of students took an old shoe box and covered it with a black paper from all sides. They fixed a source of light (a torch) at one end of the box by making a hole in it and made another hole on the other side to view the light. They placed a milk sample contained in a beaker/tumbler in the box as shown in the Figure. They were amazed to see that milk taken in the tumbler was illuminated. They tried the same activity by taking a salt solution but found that light simply passed through it ? (a) Explain why the milk sample was illuminated? Name the phenomenon involved. (b) Same results were not observed with a salt solution. Explain. (c) Can you suggest two more solutions which would show the same effect as shown by the milk solution?
