A soft drink is available in two packs - (i) a tin can with a rectangular base of length 5cm and width 4cm, having a height of 15cm and (ii) a plastic cylinder with circular base of diameter 7cm and height 10cm. Which container has greater capacity and by how much?

(i) We have, l = 5cm, b = 4 cm, h = 15 cm
Volume of cuboidical body `= lxxbxxh=5xx4xx15 cm^(3)=300 cm^(3)` ….(1)
(ii) We have, diameer = 7 cm
radius, `r = (7)/(2)cm`
height, h = 10 cm
Then, volume of a plastic cylinder `= pi r^(2)h = (22)/(7)xx(7)/(2)xx1- cm^(3)`
`= 77xx5 cm^(3) = 385 cm^(3)` ....(2)
`therefore` From eqs. (1) and (2). we see that volume of a plactic cylinder has greater capacity and its capacity is `385-300=85cm^(3)` is more than the tin can.
