Stopping distance of a moving vehicle is directly proportional to

A

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanations of assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If both assertion and reason is false

The correct Answer is:
(a)

Let the distance travelled by the vehicle before it stops be `d_s`, then using `v^(2) = u^(2)` - 2ax
put v = 0, x = `d_s`(stopping distance) we get `d_s` = `u^(2)/2a`
Thus, the stopping distance is proportional to the square of the initial velocity.
