Consider a cycle followed by an engine, (figure)

1 to 2 is isothermal 2 to 3 is adiabatic 3 to 1 is adiabatic
such a process does not exist because

A

heat is completely converted to mechanical energy in such a process which is not possible

B

mechanical energy is completely converted to hjeat in this proces , which is not possible

C

curves representign two adiabatic process can intersect

D

curves representing an adiabatic process and an isothermal process don't intersect

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
A

In one complete cycle, `1rarr2rarr3rarr3rarr1`, the systeme returns to its initial state so dU = 0 and dQ =dW i.e het is completyely cnverted in to mechanical energy in the given prpocess .It is not possible further two adiabatic curve `2rarr3and 3rarr1` connot intesect each other.

Consider a cycle followed by an engine (figure.) 1 or 2 is isothermal 2 to 3 is adiabatic 3 to 1 is adiabatic Such a process does not exist, because

The three processes in a thermodynamic cycle shown in the figure are : Process 1 to 2 is isothermal, Process 2 to 3 is isochoric (volume remains constant), Process 3 to 1 is adiabatic. The total work done by the ideal gas in this cycle is 10 J. The internal energy decreases by 20 J in the isochoric process. The work done by the gas in the adiabatic process is -20 J. The heat added to the system in the isothermal process is

An ideal gas undergoes a cyclic process, in which one process is isochoric, one process is isothermal and one process is adiabatic. During the isothermal process, 40 J heat is released by the gas, and during the isochoric process, 80 J heat is absorbed by the gas. if work done by the gas during adiabatic process is W_(1) and during isothermal process is W_(2) then the magnitude of (W_(1))/(W_(2)) will be equal to:
