The shortest wavelength in the balmer se...

The shortest wavelength in the balmer series is `(R=1-097xx10^7m^-1)`

A

200 nm

B

256.8 nm

C

300 nm

D

364.6 nm

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Wavelength for balmer series is
`(1)/(lambda)=R(1/(2^2)-1/(n^2))`
`n=prop`, the limit of the series observed.
`therefore (1)/(lambda)=R((1)/(4)-(1)/(prop^2))rArr(1)/(lambda)=(R)/(4)`or `lambda=(4)/(R)`.
Here, ryberg's constant `R=1.097xx10^7m^-1`
`therefore lambda=(4)/(1.097xx10^7)=364.6xx10^-9m=364.6nm`.
