An insulated container is divided into two equal portions. One portion contains as ideal gas at pressure `P` and tenperature `T`. The other portion is a perfect vaccum. If a hole is opened between the two portions, claculate
a. the change in internal energy.
b. the change in temperature.

For a thermally insulated system , q=0
The gas is allowed to expand against volume, the process of free expansioin and thus,
`W = -int PDeltaV=0` (for vaccum P=0)
Thus, from the I law of thermodynamics,
`q = DeltaE -W`
or `0 = DeltaE`
i.e. thermal energy change is zero or internal of gas remains constant during free expansion. Also E `=3/2 nRT, E propto T` and thus temperature of the gas will also remains constant.
