Why is the ionisation enthalpy of hydrogen higher than that of sodium ?

Text Solution

The ionisation enthalpy of hydrogen is higher than that of sodium due to its very small size. As a result, the hold of the nucleus on the only electron present in the K-shell is more as compared to sodium atom where the valence electron to the removed in present in M-Shell.
