Out of CH(3)overset(o+)(C)HCH(3) and CF(...

Out of `CH_(3)overset(o+)(C)HCH_(3) and CF_(3)overset(o+)(C)HCH_(3)` which is ore reactive and why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`CH_(3)CH overset(o+)(C)HCH_(3)` is more reactive because F atom being highly electronegative has a strong-I effect. It destablises the carbocation towards nucleophilic attack as compared to `CH_(3)overset(o+)(C)HCH_(3)` in which `CH_(3)` group is an electron releasing group and it stabilises the carbocation.
