Which of the following will give yellow ...

Which of the following will give yellow precipitate with `l_(2)//NaOH`?

A

`CH_(3)-CO-O-CO-CH_(3)`

B

`I-CH_(2)-overset(O)overset(||)C-CH_(2)-CH_(3)`

C

`CH_(3)-CO-NH_(2)`

D

`CH_(3)-overset(OH)overset(||)C-CH_(2)-CH_(3)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`lCH_(2)-CO-CH_(2)-CH_(3)` on further treatment with `l_(2)//NaOH` first give `l_(2)CHCOCH_(2)CH_(3)` and then `l_(3)C-CO-CH_(2)-CH_(3)` which subsequently undergoes hydrolysis with NaOH to yield `CHl_(3)andCH_(3)-CH_(2)-COOHNa`.
`CH_(3)-overset(OH)overset(||)C-CH_(2)-CH_(3)` being methyl carbinol on treatment with `l_(2)//NaOH` will also give `CHl_(3)`.
