Which of the following are not state functions?
(I) `q+w`
(II)`q`
(III) `w`
(IV) `H-TS`

A

I and IV

B

II, III and IV

C

I, II and III

D

II and III

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

The thermodynamic parameters which depend only upon the initial and final states of system, are called state functions, such as enthalpy (H=q+W) , Gibbs free energy (G=H-TS) , etc. While those parameters which depend on the path by which those parameters whch depend on the path by which the process is performed rather than on the initial and final states, are called path functions, such as work done , heat, etc.
