The combustion reaction occuring in an automobile is `2C_(8)H_(18)+25O_(2)(g) to16CO_(2)(g)+18H_(2)O(g)` This reaction is accompanied with:

A

`+,-,+`

B

`-,+,-`

C

`-,+,+`

D

`+,+,-`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

The given reaction is combustion reaction, so it takes place by evolution of heat and hence, the sign of `DeltaH`- negative and there is a increase in the number of moles of gaseous products, so entropy alos increases and hence, `DeltaS`= positive.
Thus, `DeltaG=DeltaH-TDeltaS =- ve -T (+ve)=`-ve at any temperature
