Arrange the following in increasing order of boiling point: n-butane,n-butanol,n-butylchloride, iso-butane.

Boiling point is based upon several factors such as mass, extent of branching and hence surface area and also the extent of hydrogen bonding. Among the given compounds, alcohols will show the highest boiling point as they can show hydrogen bonding. As for alkyl chlorides, there is no hydrogen bonding but they have considerably larger mass as compared to alkanes. Among alkanes, straight chain alkanes have higher point due to their larger surface area. Hence, iso-butane shall have the lowest boiling point among these. The order will be: iso-butane `lt` n-butane `lt` n-butyl chloride `lt` n-butanol
