A steel rod 100 cm long is clamped at its middle. The fundamental frequency of longitudinal vibrations of the rod is given to be 2.53k Hz. What is the speed of sound in steel?

Text Solution

Given : `u = 2.53kHz=2.53**10^(3)Hz`
(L)Length of steel rod `=100cm = 1m`. When the steel rod clampedat its middle executeslongitudinal vibrations of its fundamental frequency, then
`L=lambda/2or lambda=2L=2**1=2m`
The speed of sound in steel `v=nlambda=2.53**10^(3)**2=5.06**10^(3)ms^(-1)`.
