One litre of a mixture of CO and `CO_2` is passed through red-hot charcoal. The volume now becomes 1.6 litre. Find the composition of the mixture by volume.

Let there be x mL CO n the mixture, hence, there will be `(1000)mL CO_(2)`. The reaction of `CO_(2)` with red hot charged may be given as,
`underset((1000-s))underset(1"vol.")(CO_(2)(g))+C(s) to underset(2(1000-x))underset(2"vol.")(2CO(g))`
Total volume of gas becomes =x+2(1000-x)
x+2000-2x=1600
x=4000mL
Volume of CO=00mL and volume of `CO_(2)`=600mL
