Consider following two competing first ordr reactions,
`Poverset(k_(1))rarrA+B,Qoverset(k_(2))rarrC+D`
if `50%` of the reaction oof P wascompleted when `96%` of Q was complete ,then the ratio `(k_(2)//k_(1))` will be :

A

`4.6`

B

`4.06`

C

`1.123`

D

`2.303`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

For `50%` completion of P:
`t=(0.693)/(k_(1))i.e., k_(1)=(0.693)/(t)`
For `96%` completion of Q:
`t=(2.303)/(k_(2))log((100)/(100-96))`
`:. K_(2)=(2.303xx1.398)/(t)`
Dividing eq.(ii) by eq. (i)
`(k_(2))/(k)/(k_(1))=4.6`
