If the aldehyde product in more volatile than the reactant alcohol and `H_(2)O`, it may be removed from the reaction mixture by distillation as it is formed. For exapmple, acetaldehyde (b.pt.294K) can be prepared from ethyl alcohol (b.pt. 351K) by this method.
