Find the ratio in which the `y-z` plane divides the join of the points `(-2,4,7)a n d(3,-5,8)dot`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let the `y-z` plane divide the join of P(-2, 4, 7) and Q(3, -5, 8) in the ratio `lamda:1`.
If `((3lamda-2)/(lamda+1), (-5lamda+4)/(lamda+1), (8lamda+7)/(lamda+1))` is in the y-z plane, then its x-coordinate is zero. Therefore,
`" "(3lamda-2)/(lamda+1)=0or 3lamda-2=0`
or `" "lamda=2//3`
