What volumes of ethyl alcohol and water ...

What volumes of ethyl alcohol and water must be mixed together to prepare 250 mL of 60 percent volume by volume solution of alcohol in water ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Volume percent = `("Volume of alcohol")/("Volume of solution")xx 100`
`60 = ("Volume of alcohol (x)")/(("250 mL"))xx 100`
or `x = (60 xx (250 mL))/(100) = 150 mL`
Volume of water = (250 - 150) = 100 mL
