While diluting a solution of salt in water, a student by mistake added acetone (boiling point `56^(@)`). What technique can be employed to get back the acetone? Justify your choice.

Text Solution

Acetone can be recovered by carrying out the distillation is a distillation flask. Its vapours will rise since it is volatile, get condensed and collected in a receiver. Salt being non-volatile in nature remains in the flask.

Calculate the boiling point of solution containing 0.456g of camphor (molar mass =152 ) dissolved in 31.4g of acetone (boiling point =56.30^(@)C ), if the molar elevation constant per 100g of acetone is 17.2^(@)C.

Inspired by Alfred Werner (1866-1919), a KOTA student decided to reconduct a similar experiment on unknown salt samples of MCl_(3).xNH_(3) . The student found that some of the chloride ions could be prdipitated as AgCl on adding silver nitrate solution. He found that this salt was of 4 years (based on colour). He labelled these complexes as A (yellow complex) B( purple complex), C (Green complex), D (violet complex). He found that moles of AgCl precipitated (per mole of salt) in one case was 3, one case it was 2, and in two cases it was one. He then measured the electrical conductivity of various salt solutions and found that D had the lowest value. He then measured the boiling point of solutions of A, B, C, D and found that B had the 2nd highest boiling point, Based on the above information, answer the following questions. If atomic number of M is 27, then number of N-M-N bond angles in A will be :

Prachi took 50 mL of water in two beakers at room temperature and added sodium chloride to one beaker while sugar to the other, till no more solute would dissolve. Then she heated the contents of the beakers and added more solutes in them. (a) Will the amount of salt and sugar that can be dissolved in water at given temperature same ? (b) What will you expect to happen if she cools the contents of the beakers ? Justify your answer.
