A metal cabonate X on rectin g with an ...

A metal cabonate X on rectin g with an acid agives a gas which when passsed through a solution Y gives the carbonate back. On the other hand, a gas G that is obtained at anode udring electrolysis of brine is passsed on dry y, it gives a compound Z, used for disinfecting drinking water . Identify X,Y,G and Z.

The gas (G) obtained at anode during the electrolysis of brine is chlorine. The compound (Z) used for disinfeciting drinking water is bleaching powder. It is formed on reacting chlorine with dry slaked lime i.e., `Ca(OH)_(2).` It is denoted as 'Y'. This means that the metal carbonate 'X' is calcium carbonate. Upon heating, it evolves `CO_(2)` gas which gives back 'X' on reacting with calcium hydroxide. reaction involved are listed:
`underset((X))(CaCO_(3))+underset(("Acid"))(2HCl)toCaCl_(2)+H_(2)O+CO_(2).`
`underset((Y))(Ca(OH))_(2)CO_(2)to underst ((X))(CaCO_(3))+H_(2)O`
`Ca(OH)_(2) underset((G "Form brine"))(+Cl_(2))to underset (("Z Bleaching Powder"))(CaOCl_(2))+H_(2)O`
