Two capacitors of capacitances 20`mu`F and 60`mu`F are connected in series. If the potential difference between the two ends of the combination is 40 volt, calculate the terminal potential difference of each capacitor.

In series combination, the charge q on both the capacitors is the same. As V = `(q)/(C )`, we have V `prop (1)/(C )` . Here, ratio between the capacitances = `(20)/(60) = (1)/(3),` so the ratio
between the terminal potential differences = `(3)/(1)`
So, the total voltage of 40V will be distributed as 30V and 10V.
