When phosphorus `(P_(4))` is heated in limited amount of `O_(2),P_(4)P_(6)` is obtained and excess of `O_(2),P_(4)P_(10)` is obtained.
`P_(4)+3O_(2)rarrP_(4)O_(6)`
`P_(4)+5O_(2)rarrP_(4)O_(10)`
If 1.24 g of `P_(4)` reacts with 1.28 g of `O_(2)(g)`, then select correct statement(s)

A

Only `P_(4)O_(6)` is formed

B

Only `P_(4)O_(10)` is formed

C

Formed moles of `P_(4)O_(6)` and `P_(4)O_(10)` is 0.005 each

D

None of the reactant remaining after reaction

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C, D

Given moles of `O_(2)` is 4 for per mole of `P_(4)`
`therefore " "P_(4)O_(6)` and `P_(4)O_(10)` will be formed
`P_(4)+O_(2)rarrP_(4)O_(6)+P_(4)O_(10)`
Let a = produced moles of `P_(4)O_(6)`
b = produced moles of `P_(4)O_(10)`
Applying POAC on P & O atom
`4 ((1.24)/(124))=4a +4b " ".......(1)`
`2 ((1.28)/(32))= 6a + 10b " ".......(2)`
`4b =-6xx0.01 +0.04 xx2 =0.02, " "b=((0.02)/(4))=5xx10^(-3)`
`therefore " "4a = 4 xx 0.01 -4 ((0.02)/(4))= 5xx 10^(-3)`
`therefore " "a = (0.02)/(4)=b`
Left mass of `O_(2)` after `I^(st)` reaction `= (0.04-0.03)xx32=0.32g`
