What are the possible paths of free electrons inside the conductor ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In the absence of electric field insdie conductor, free electrons are unaccelerated , so their path between consecutive collisions is straight line .
In the presence of electric field inside conductor, free electrons are accelerated so their path is generally curved.

What do you mean by thermal motion of free electrons in conductors ?

Assertion : Inside a conductor, electrons have no motion in the absence of some potential difference across it. Reason : In the absence of potential difference no electrostatic force will act on the electrons inside the conductor.
