In an intrinsic (pure) semiconductor, the number of conduction electrons is `7xx10^(19)` per cubic meter. Find the total number of current carriers (electrons & holes ) in a same semiconductor of size 1 cm x 1 cm x 1mm.

In intrinsic semiconductor `n_(e) = n_(h)`
Given, `n_(e) = 7 xx 10^(19) per m^(3)`
`therefore` `n_(h) = n_(e) = 7 xx 10^(19) m^(3)`
So, total current carrier density = `n_(e) + n_(h) = 7 xx 10^(19) = 14 xx 10^(19) per m^(3)`
Now, total number of current carrier = Number density` xx` volume
` = (14 xx 10^(19) per m^(3)) xx (10^(-2)m xx 10^(-2)m xx 10^(-3) m)`
`=14 xx 10^(12)`
