Two resistors of resistance `5Omega and 10 Omega` are connected in parallel with a battery of emf 10 V. Draw the circuit diagram and calculate the amount of energy expended for 5 minutes in each resistor.

Circuit diagram of the given problem is shown in fig. 6.21. P.d between the two ends of each resistor, V=10 V time= 5 minutes `=(5xx60)s=300s`
Amount of energy expended in `5Omega` resistor,
`W_(1)=(V^(2)t)/(R_(1))=((10)^(2))/(5)xx300 J=6000 J=6 kJ`
Amount of energy expended in `10 Omega` resistor,
`W_(2)=(V^(2)t)/(R_(2))=((10)^(2))/(10)xx300 J=3000 J =3 kJ`
