Phospholipids synthesis does not occur in RER. It occurs inside Smooth Endoplasmic Recticulum (SER) . A signal peptide is a short peptide present at the N-terminus of the newly synthesised proteins . It targets them to the ER and is then cleaved off . RER synthesises proteins . It bears enzymes for modifying polypeptides synthesised by attached ribosomess , e.g. glycosylation.
