Aluminium occurs in the combined state while gold does not. Why ?

Aluminium occupies a high position in the activity series and therfore is of reactive nature and occurs in combined state with other elements. Gold is placed almost at the bottom (above platinum). It is very little reactive and therefore, occurs in the free state.
